Police have recovered the body of an elderly man, Md. Razzak Molla, alias Najo (75), found hanging in Binodpur Mollapara, Binodpur union, Mohammadpur upazila, Magura.
Local residents spotted his body hanging from a gab tree near his home on Wednesday (July 8) afternoon. Mohammadpur police station were informed and recovered the body from the scene.
Local sources said Razzak Molla had a long-running dispute with the wife of his nephew, Ripon Molla, over family matters. Residents allege the woman had physically abused him multiple times amid the family conflict. Signs of bleeding were found on the deceased’s hands when the body was recovered, raising various questions in the area about the circumstances of his death.
Mohammadpur police station officer-in-charge Ashrafuzzaman confirmed the incident, saying the body has been sent to Magura Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy after completing the inquest report.
He said Ripon Molla’s wife has been taken into police custody for initial questioning. Whether the incident was suicide or murder can only be confirmed after the autopsy report and completion of the investigation.
Police said a case has been filed at Mohammadpur police station over the incident, and an investigation is underway.
