India’s deputy high commissioner to Bangladesh, Pawankumar Tulshidas Badhe, has called for the expansion of bilateral trade and investment between Bangladesh and India, the removal of tariff and non-tariff barriers, and stronger commercial links between the two countries.

He set out these points during a courtesy call on the administrator of the FBCCI, Md Fazlul Haque, at the federation’s Gulshan office on Monday.

The deputy high commissioner spoke of the need to form a business-to-business task force to expand investment and trade between the two countries. He said his office was maintaining regular contact and discussion with both governments to give momentum to the process of forming the task force. He sought the cooperation of Bangladesh’s private sector, led by the FBCCI, on the matter.

The Indian deputy high commissioner said all visa procedures for Bangladeshis travelling to India had been eased at present. He said the Indian High Commission was issuing a large number of visas each day.

The FBCCI administrator said a joint task force could play a productive part in increasing bilateral trade between Bangladesh and India and in developing a relationship of mutual cooperation. Md Fazlul Haque called on businesspeople and entrepreneurs in both countries to work together to advance investment and trade in emerging sectors with potential.
