Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has tightened surveillance at the Phulbari border in Dinajpur to thwart possible push-in attempts by India’s Border Security Force (BSF). According to relevant sources, allegations have arisen that attempts are being made to force some Bengali-speaking Indian nationals into Bangladesh from various Indian border areas. Attempts have already been made to push in several people — women, men and children — through the Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur’s Hili borders, but the efforts failed because of the BGB’s firm posture and activity.
In this situation, the 29 BGB Battalion responsible for the Phulbari border is on maximum alert. Patrols and surveillance have been increased so that no one can be brought into Bangladesh illegally, and BGB members along with local villagers are keeping watch through the night to reinforce the guard. The BGB says its members are ready around the clock to resist any kind of infiltration or push-in attempt at the border.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Arif-uz-Zaman, commander of the Phulbari 29 BGB Battalion, said: “The BGB is always on alert at the border. Strict surveillance is continuing so that no Indian national can enter Bangladesh illegally.” He added: “Regular operations are also being conducted to prevent smuggling at the border. The BGB is always committed to protecting the country’s sovereignty and border security, and there is no scope for any slackness in performing this duty.”
