Bangladesh Bank has handed Al-Arafah Islami Bank back to its former owners, adding 14 entrepreneur directors to the bank’s board.

A letter to this effect was sent from Bangladesh Bank to the bank’s managing director on Wednesday. The letter said the five independent directors appointed by Bangladesh Bank would remain on the board.

Central bank executive director and spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan confirmed the information.

He said the bank had been returned to its former entrepreneurs because its financial condition had improved. For other banks whose boards were dissolved, the entrepreneurs could not be found, he said, but the picture was different for this bank, so it had been handed back to them.

The 14 entrepreneur directors are Badiur Rahman, Selim Rahman, Ahamedul Haque, Rafiqul Islam, Imadur Rahman, Nazmul Ahsan Khaled, Khalilur Rahman, Anwar Hossain, Abdus Salam, Liaquat Ali Chowdhury, Enayet Ulla, KDS Garments representative director Mahbub Ahmed, KDS Textile representative director Farid Uddin Ahmed and K.Y. Steel Mill representative director Sharif Uddin Taslim.
