Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday for a one-day state visit. Among the main items on the agenda are the implementation of the recent Iran-US understanding and various regional and international issues of mutual interest to the two countries.
During the visit, Pezeshkian will hold meetings with Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The two countries will also discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, border security, increasing people-to-people contact and improving regional connectivity.
The visit is taking place at a time when Iran and the United States have, in talks held in Switzerland, agreed on a roadmap to reach a final agreement within 60 days.
Pakistan’s state television, PTV, reported that when President Pezeshkian landed at the Nur Khan airbase, he was welcomed by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other senior government officials.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry had earlier said the Iranian president was making the state visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
During the visit, the deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Ishaq Dar, the chairman of the Senate and the speaker of the National Assembly will also meet Pezeshkian. This is Masoud Pezeshkian’s second visit to Pakistan since taking office as Iran’s president.
