The Rajshahi University (RU) unit of Chhatra Dal has held a protest march and rally against a planned June 23 programme of the banned Awami League. From the rally, the RU Chhatra Dal president, Sultan Ahmed Rahi, announced that a reward of 10,000 taka would be given for handing over leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League.
The protest march began at midday on Monday from the university’s transport square. After circling important roads on the campus, it returned to the same spot for a brief rally.
Addressing the rally, the RU Chhatra Dal president, Sultan Ahmed Rahi, issued a stern warning. ‘The autocrats who shed the blood of the people of Bangladesh will not be given the chance to march on the soil of Bangla again,’ he said. ‘Some so-called civil teachers of the university are still building narratives in favour of the Awami League. From today, if any teacher or officer of the university speaks in favour of the Awami League, arrangements must be made to punish them. We will not give the Awami League any further chance to do politics in this country.’
Declaring that the Awami League’s June 23 founding-anniversary programme would be resisted, he added: ‘Right after the Fajr prayers, the leaders and activists of Rajshahi University Chhatra Dal will take position at intersection after intersection. If anyone can hand over any Awami League leader or activist during this time, they will be given a reward of 10,000 taka on behalf of Rajshahi University Chhatra Dal.’
Numerous leaders and activists of various units of Rajshahi University were present at the protest march and rally.
