Police arrested Hasib Hasan, joint general secretary of the Rajshahi University (RU) unit of Chhatra Dal, with seven pieces of the banned Indian narcotic tapentadol. He was arrested Saturday evening from the Mizaner Mor area of Rajshahi city and taken to Motihar police station.

Police sources said the operation was carried out at Mizaner Mor in Rajshahi city based on confidential information. He was arrested at the scene, where seven pieces of the Indian drug tapentadol were found in his possession.

Sultan Ahmed Rahi, president of the RU unit of Chhatra Dal, said: “I learned about this through journalists. Chhatra Dal is always committed to building a drug-free campus. I’m not yet certain whether the drugs belonged to him or to his friends. If this proves to be the case, we will take appropriate action.”

University Proctor Professor Dr Mahbubur Rahman said: “Using or trading in drugs is a punishable offense under Bangladeshi law. Since he was caught with drugs, he will face consequences under the country’s existing laws. We have notified the administration.”

Confirming the matter, Motihar Police Station OC Golam Kabir said Hasib was arrested with drugs, and further details would be provided later.
