India’s NDA government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has made clear that there is no prospect of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigning. The Indian outlet NDTV reported this, citing top government sources.

In a live report, the outlet said student protesters led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) are continuing to demonstrate, demanding Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over the leak of the NEET exam paper.

Their demand is that the movement will not be withdrawn until the education minister resigns. But the Indian government too has said the education minister will not resign under any circumstances.

In the sources’ account, Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation is not now under the government’s consideration. A government source told NDTV: “Resignation is the easiest decision. But we will carry out the responsibility the people have given us in their mandate.”

This statement from the Indian government gives a clear indication that they have no plan to remove the education minister under pressure from the movement.

Meanwhile, a second round of talks took place between a CJP delegation and India’s central government on Friday. J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh met CJP representatives at the Constitution Club in Delhi on Friday.

After the meeting, the CJP said it was standing firm on its demand for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The CJP also said the central government had asked for time until tomorrow afternoon on the matter of their demands.

CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said they had given the government a list of their three conditions. These are: the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan; 1 crore rupees in compensation for students who died by suicide over the NEET exam; and no FIRs against the protesters.
