Kuwait has directly denied allegations of its involvement in any military operation against Iran. The country’s government said no one has been given permission to use Kuwait’s territory, airspace or waters for the purpose of carrying out strikes on Iran.
Kuwait gave the formal explanation after a report published in the US daily The Wall Street Journal. The information was released by the country’s state news agency KUNA.
The report claimed that Kuwait and Bahrain had secretly carried out air strikes in response to Iranian drone and missile attacks on US military bases in the Persian Gulf region. It also said the strikes were carried out earlier this month against several Iranian military installations and drone and missile depots. It further said the United Arab Emirates had assisted the operation by providing intelligence.
After these claims, Kuwait’s ambassador to the United States, Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah, sent a letter to The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board describing the allegations raised in the report as entirely false and baseless.
In her letter the ambassador made clear that Kuwait had in no way taken part in military operations against Iran. She also said no party had been given permission to use Kuwait’s territory, airspace or waters to conduct any offensive operation.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Mehr News, citing KUNA, reported that Kuwait had firmly rejected the information in the published report. No formal statement has so far been received from Bahrain on the matter.
