Vinicius Junior has returned to Real Madrid training amid speculation about his future and reports linking him with a move to Arsenal. The Brazilian arrived at the club’s Valdebebas training complex on Monday morning local time after a post-World Cup break. He completed medical tests and his first team session under new coach José Mourinho.

Spanish media reports said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was personally trying to sign Vinicius. Arteta has reportedly promised to make him the center of Arsenal’s project and aims to turn the club into Europe’s next dominant team. The Brazilian has only 12 months remaining on his Real Madrid contract, but no final agreement or personal terms have been reached.

Real Madrid said on its official website: “Vini Junior and Brahim Diaz have returned to Real Madrid after participating in the World Cup. Both players reported to the Valdebebas hospital this morning for medical tests before completing their first training session under the new coach.”

Mourinho, beginning a second spell as Real Madrid coach, does not want to lose the star forward. Los Blancos are also determined to retain one of their key attacking players, although club officials have not yet held a formal meeting on a contract renewal.

Arsenal’s strong interest and Vinicius’ contract situation have added intrigue to the summer transfer window. His performances under Mourinho in the remaining preseason matches are expected to draw close attention.
