The body of a woman named Sultana Begum (24) has been recovered from the Boulai river in Sunamganj’s Tahirpur, three hours after she went missing while bathing. A fire service diving team recovered the body from the river beside Dhutma village in the upazila’s Sadar union at about 4pm on Tuesday (9 June). She had gone missing around 1pm while bathing at her family’s ghat adjoining Dhutma village. She was the wife of Abul Bashar of the village, and leaves a three-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter.
Local people said Sultana Begum could not swim and suffered from epilepsy. Junab Ali, chairman of Tahirpur Sadar union parishad, said she had gone to the river ghat at noon to bathe with her son and daughter, and went under while bathing. When her daughter came home and raised the alarm, local residents and family members searched but could not find her. On receiving the news, the Tahirpur fire service, joined by local residents, searched the river and recovered her body. Tahirpur police officer-in-charge (OC) Aminul Islam confirmed the incident.
