Meeting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, leaders of the Hindu community said: “That the people of the Hindu community made no mistake in voting for the BNP is being proved again and again since this government took power. Their support and cooperation for the government will continue.”

They told the prime minister that they have been living in peace since the national parliamentary election and are not facing any problems.

This was stated in a notice from the prime minister’s press wing. The prime minister exchanged views with the Hindu community leaders on Monday at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Secretariat.

The notice quotes the prime minister as saying he is doing his utmost to ensure the rights and security due to everyone as a citizen of the country. Ensuring whatever rights each person has as a citizen is his duty as head of government, he said.

The notice says the Hindu leaders praised the government’s various initiatives for the welfare of Hindus since the BNP came to power. They thanked the prime minister for extending the puja holidays and increasing the grants.

Referring to this, the prime minister said: “You yourselves have said that whatever work has been done in this short time, we have done. We are trying on some other matters too. This shows that we have the goodwill.”

Recalling the country’s democratic movements and the Liberation War, the prime minister said his father took part in the Liberation War. People of every faith, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist and Christian, took part in that war. Everyone, regardless of religion or caste, also took part in the mass movement of 1990 and the movement of 2024.

“When at the nation’s hours of crisis we did not take religion into account, why should we consider religion in other matters? We all freed the country together. We all took part in the movement to establish democracy too,” the prime minister said.
