The United States and Israel may have gone too far in targeting and killing Iran’s top leaders, US President Donald Trump has said. He also indicated that, with one Iranian leader after another killed, there is now uncertainty about whom to choose for talks with the country.
Trump was speaking to supporters at an election rally in the US state of Ohio on Monday night local time.
He said that perhaps the US had overreacted against Iran’s leaders, because it no longer knew whom it was negotiating with.
Trump is thought to have made the remark with reference to the killing of the country’s former leader and top officials in the continuing US and Israeli war against Iran. He believes that the series of deaths at the level of Iran’s leadership has made it hard to identify suitable representatives for talks with the country.
Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance had said in an interview with the Reuters news agency that Washington is still not sure how decisions are currently being made within Iran’s leadership.
