Six more children die with measles symptoms

Six more children have died with measles symptoms in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours. In the same period 1,390 children fell ill with symptoms of the disease and measles was confirmed in 102. In all, there were 1,393 new child patients.

The figures were given on Wednesday in the regular measles report of the Directorate General of Health Services. It said that in the past 24 hours two people died with measles symptoms and two of confirmed measles in Dhaka division, one in Chattogram and one in Sylhet.

According to the directorate, the total number of deaths from measles and measles symptoms in the country since 15 March has risen to 1,140. Of them, 104 died of confirmed measles and 1,036 with measles symptoms.

The report also said measles symptoms were found in 1,280 people in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of suspected infections to 200,293. In addition, 110 people were confirmed to have measles in the past 24 hours, taking the number of confirmed cases so far to 22,020.

By the government’s count, 1,140 children have died since 15 March, and 222,313 children have fallen ill so far.
