BGB recovers Indian pistol and weapons at Matiranga border

KHAGRACHARI — Border Guard Bangladesh recovered an Indian pistol, live ammunition and locally made weapons in a special operation at the Matiranga border in Khagrachari on Friday, BGB said.

BGB members of the Palashpur zone conducted the operation around 5:30 a.m. on Friday, sources said.

BGB sources said the operation was conducted in the Behadantapara area of Gomti union in Matiranga, about 13 km northeast of battalion headquarters. They recovered an unattended Indian pistol, two rounds of live ammunition and three machetes.

The recovered weapons and ammunition have an estimated market value of about 1 lakh taka, BGB said. The process of handing them over to Matiranga police station is underway.

Lt. Col. Muhammad Shahinul Islam, commander of Khedachhara Battalion (40 BGB), said the operation was conducted based on intelligence. BGB members are always vigilant in preventing illegal arms smuggling and infiltration along the border, and such operations will continue in the future, he said.
