Three more children have died of measles in the country in the past 24 hours. In the same period, 1,009 people were affected by suspected measles and measles was confirmed in 126, making a total of 1,135 new measles patients.
With this, according to government figures, the total number of people affected by measles and its symptoms since March 15 — that is, in 101 days — has risen to 106,061, with a total of 686 deaths. Of these, 93 children died of confirmed measles and 593 of measles symptoms.
The information was given in a press release sent from the control room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday.
The release said that, from March 15 to 8 a.m. on June 23, 94,764 patients with suspected measles symptoms had been found, and 11,297 confirmed measles patients. During this period, 78,716 people were admitted to hospital with suspected measles symptoms, and 74,971 recovered and were discharged.
The Directorate General of Health Services said that, of the children who died in the past 24 hours, there was one each in the Dhaka, Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions. Among the ‘suspected’ cases, the highest number of patients was found in the Dhaka division, at 453, of whom 76 were confirmed with measles. In the division-wise death figures, the Dhaka division has so far recorded the most measles deaths, at 308, including 57 children from confirmed measles and 251 from suspected measles. It is followed by the Rajshahi division with 90 deaths in total, including two from confirmed measles; Sylhet with 78, including three; Chittagong with 60, including 10; Barishal with 58, including 19; Mymensingh with 57, including two; the Khulna division with 27 deaths from measles symptoms; and the Rangpur division with eight deaths from measles symptoms.
