One of the main demands of the student movement in India led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) was the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Dharmendra has already announced his resignation. The CJP has now said, however, that it has three more demands. The information was given in a live report by the Indian outlet NDTV on Saturday, July 25.

On this, the CJP’s founder, Abhijit Deepke, said that although Dharmendra has resigned, the cockroaches (the protesters) will not leave the protest site just yet. NDTV said Abhijit made the remark in his first speech to protesters after the news of Dharmendra’s resignation.

The CJP later wrote on the social-media platform X that Dharmendra’s resignation is done, and that now 1 crore rupees must be given to each family of the students who died by suicide over the NEET paper leak. No action may be taken against the protesting students, it said. The third demand is that the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Delhi Police must apologise to the protesters.

Meanwhile, students protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar are celebrating in triumph at the news of Dharmendra’s resignation. Many of the country’s human-rights activists and environmentalists, along with various politicians, are also reacting.

The Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal said this is a big victory for India’s democracy. One of the leading faces of the continuing movement, Sonam Wangchuk, also said it is a victory for democracy.
