The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has directed teachers, officers and staff working at government educational institutions to strictly follow the existing government guidelines on the use of social media, particularly Facebook.

A letter on the matter was sent to the heads of government educational institutions and the offices concerned across the country on Wednesday (29 July). The “Guidelines on the Use of Social Media in Government Institutions, 2019 (revised edition)” was attached to the letter.

The DSHE said there are set guidelines for government officers and staff on the use of social media. Breaching these guidelines amounts to a breach of the code of conduct. In many cases it can also be harmful to national security and may be considered misconduct under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.

For this reason, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, the various offices under it and all teachers, officers and staff working at government educational institutions have been directed again to follow the 2019 revised guidelines properly in their use of social media.
