A Jubo Dal leader has been killed with sharp weapons over prior enmity in Bagharpara upazila of Jashore. The incident happened at around 11:20 a.m. on Monday in front of the weigh-scale near the Khajura fuel station in the upazila.
The deceased, Rubel Hossain, 38, was the son of the late Muntaj Dhali of Telidhanyapura village in Bagharpara upazila. He was the joint general secretary of the Bandabila union Jubo Dal.
According to police and local sources, over prior enmity, Rabbi, the son of Abdur Rob of the same area, hacked Rubel Hossain indiscriminately with a sharp weapon, seriously injuring him. The accused, Rabbi, is a relative by marriage of the deceased’s younger sister. After the incident, local people rescued Rubel in a critical condition and brought him to the emergency department of the 250-bed Jashore General Hospital, but the doctor on duty declared him dead on arrival. The body was later sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The officer-in-charge of Bagharpara police station, Shah Jalal Alam, said police had visited the scene on receiving the news and that an intensive investigation had begun to uncover the real cause of the killing. Several police teams were conducting drives to arrest the accused, Rabbi, he said.
