Arvind Kejriwal, national convener of India’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has derided as a “hollow promise” Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of tough steps to ensure the punishment of those accused in the paper-leak case.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced on Thursday that a bill with provisions for strict action against paper leaks would be placed in parliament next week. He also ordered the formation of a fast-track court for such cases. It was against this that Kejriwal made his remarks.
In a video message, Kejriwal said: “At 12 last night the prime minister announced that on Monday a bill will be brought in parliament to set up a fast-track court in paper-leak cases. How hollow this assurance is was proved only yesterday.”
Kejriwal said: “The mastermind of the 2024 NEET paper-leak affair has been declared not guilty by a CBI court.”
He asked: “If this is the kind of investigation being done, if there is no evidence to show in court, then why the drama of a fast-track court?”
The former chief minister of Delhi also alleged that there is a flaw in the prime minister’s very intent.
