India’s Telangana state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a senior police officer on charges of amassing illegal assets worth nearly 3 billion rupees. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sankireddy Bheem Reddy was arrested on Monday evening. A case has been filed against him for acquiring assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, according to online NDTV.

ACB officials arrested him around 7:40pm that day from his residence at Vesela Meadows in the Ibrahimbagh area of Hyderabad, after completing searches at multiple locations. He was to be produced before the ACB’s special court. The ACB alleges that Bheem Reddy amassed assets far exceeding his legitimate income through corruption and various illegal means during his tenure in service.

A few days earlier, the ACB conducted simultaneous raids at 16 locations across Telangana and Karnataka, including his residence. These locations included properties belonging to his relatives, friends, alleged benami (proxy) owners, and associates. During the searches, officials found the following assets: a luxury villa at Vesela Meadows, Hyderabad; a G+2-plus-penthouse residential building in Telecom Nagar; a flat at Sai Prabha Residency; a flat at Kranti Sion Apartments in Gachibowli; a partnership share in a G+5 commercial building on 500 square yards of land on Lankohills Road, Manikonda.

Also found: roughly 3,000 square feet of commercial space near Manikonda Marichettu Junction; two flats at Abhinanda Residency in Tellapur; a vacant 500-square-yard plot in the Pragati Resorts area; 3.5 acres of agricultural land in Zaheerabad, Sangareddy; 6 acres of agricultural land in Karnataka; another 38 acres of agricultural land in Karnataka; 1 acre of land in Devanahalli, Bangalore; a 200-square-yard plot near Kamineni Hospital in Nagole; a 400-square-yard plot near GPR Housing Society in Patancheru; another 200-square-yard plot in Patancheru; 1,000 square yards of land in Mominpet, Vikarabad; 2 acres of agricultural land in Mominpet; a 7.5 million rupee investment in a firm called Sri Raghavendra Rock Sand Minerals; 4.2 acres of agricultural land in Muchintala village, CC Kunta area; and cash, gold and silver. Searches at Bheem Reddy’s home turned up nearly 360,000 rupees in cash.

An additional 4 million rupees in cash was found at the home of an alleged benami associate. The raids also recovered about 2 kilograms of gold jewelry, roughly 20 kilograms of silver items, and deposits of about 1.991 million rupees across various bank accounts.

ACB officials said a diary recovered during the raids has served as one of the case’s most important pieces of evidence.
