The Arthi Ahmed Dance Academy will celebrate the monsoon through the rhythm and beat of dance. The monsoon dance festival “Ghanoghata 2” will be held on July 17 at Bakultala of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Dhaka. Dhaka University is jointly organizing the event with the academy, under the direction of the dancer Arthi Ahmed. This is to be the first production directed by Arthi Ahmed after she received the Ekushey Padak this year.

Last year the academy held “Ghanoghata” at the same venue, with 110 artists aged 18 to 70 taking part under Arthi Ahmed’s direction. A year on, the monsoon dance festival “Ghanoghata 2” is being held again at the same place. The event will begin at 11 a.m. on July 17 at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University. More than 300 artists aged 3 to 70 will take part in the open-air performance, among them doctors, engineers, scientists, researchers, journalists, teachers, social workers, homemakers and students — people of various professions and classes.

The organizers said Ghanoghata was not just a dance production but a festival of new beginnings, where age was no barrier and dreams held inside the mind were allowed to spread their wings. “Join us to welcome the day of the monsoon. Leave your umbrella at home and instead get drenched in the song, dance and poetry of the rain,” they said. The organizers also said that, keeping in mind the recent flood situation in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, there would be a JAAGO Foundation donation booth at the venue, where guests could donate directly to help flood victims. The event is open to all, though the organizers have requested the audience to come dressed in white, blue or green sarees and panjabis.
