The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) has cut the price of gold in the domestic market once more. This time the organisation reduced the price by Tk 2,158 a bhori, setting the price of one bhori of 22-carat gold at Tk 2,19,808. BAJUS gave the information in a notice on Tuesday (July 14) morning, and the new price takes effect from 10 a.m. on the same day.
The notice said the price of pure gold (tejabi gold) had fallen in the local market, so the new price of gold, including VAT, had been set in light of the overall situation. According to the new price, one bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold, including VAT, will cost Tk 2,19,808. In addition, the price per bhori has been set at Tk 2,09,894 for 21-carat, Tk 1,80,267 for 18-carat and Tk 1,47,316 for traditional-method gold.
BAJUS also said the price would remain in force until the next announcement, though making charges would apply according to the design of the jewellery, and that since VAT was included in the sale price of gold and silver jewellery, VAT could not be collected separately from customers. So far this year, the price of gold in the domestic market has been adjusted a total of 91 times, of which the price rose 44 times, fell 46 times and had a VAT adjustment once.
