The government has declared five newly built children’s hospitals in divisional and district towns as ‘specialized hospitals.’ The Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued a notification to that effect last Wednesday, signed by Deputy Secretary (Government Health Management-1) Kazi Sharif Uddin Ahmed.
According to the notification, the hospitals granted specialized status are Rangpur Children’s Hospital, Khulna Children’s Hospital, Kushtia Children’s Hospital, Rajshahi Children’s Hospital and Barishal Children’s Hospital.
The specialized designation is expected to strengthen the institutions’ administrative structures and to speed up staff recruitment, the posting of specialist doctors and the expansion of child healthcare. It should also make it easier to ensure specialized treatment for children, the use of modern medical equipment and improved services.
