Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has said that the government’s programme of bringing non-MPO educational institutions under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme in phases is ongoing. Subject to a government policy decision and to meeting all the set conditions for MPO enlistment, the necessary steps would be taken to bring non-MPO degree colleges under the MPO scheme in phases, he said. The education minister made the remarks in reply to a question in the National Parliament on Tuesday (July 14).
The education minister also said that, according to BANBEIS data, there are currently 1,050 academically recognised degree (pass) colleges and 698 academically recognised degree (honours) colleges in the country. In addition, there are currently 1,056 colleges that are MPO-listed up to the degree level.
