Bangladesh remained the world’s second-largest apparel exporter for a fifth consecutive year despite industry challenges, according to the World Trade Organization’s World Trade Statistical Review 2025.
China retained first place even as global apparel exports declined slightly. Vietnam ranked third, India fourth and Turkey fifth.
Bangladesh exported US$38.82 billion in ready-made garments last year, the report said. That was nearly US$2 billion more than exports from Vietnam, its closest competitor.
Vietnam overtook Bangladesh for second place in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bangladesh regained the position in 2021, pushing Vietnam into third place. Vietnam remained third in both 2024 and 2025, while China continued to lead the ranking.
Bangladesh’s share of the global apparel export market fell from 7 percent the previous year to 6.76 percent in 2025. The report described this as a second consecutive annual decline. It listed the country’s share as 6.68 percent in 2023 and 7.91 percent in 2022, the highest level recorded so far.
Vietnam’s share rose to 6.53 percent last year from 6.17 percent in 2024 and 5.81 percent in 2023, WTO data showed. Its share has increased for three consecutive years, narrowing the gap with Bangladesh.
