Jibannagar municipality announces Tk 49 crore budget

A detailed budget of Tk 49,00,30,342 has been announced for Jibannagar municipality in Chuadanga for the 2026-27 fiscal year. It was announced by municipal administrator and Jibannagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashraful Alam Rasel at a formal meeting at the administrator’s office around noon on Monday (29 June).

In his budget speech, he said a sustainable and participatory budget had been framed with the aim of building a better Jibannagar, with a balance struck between citizen services, infrastructure development and good governance.

For the 2026-27 fiscal year, revenue income was set at Tk 3,72,80,000 against revenue expenditure of Tk 3,67,74,352. The revenue account has an opening balance of Tk 4,16,642 and is projected to close the year with a surplus of Tk 9,22,290.

On the revenue side, the largest projected earnings are Tk 1,08,00,000 from the transfer of immovable property, Tk 82,00,000 from house and land tax, Tk 48,00,000 from haat-bazaar leases and Tk 32,00,000 from profession, business and calling licences. On the expenditure side, the largest proposed outlay is Tk 1,20,18,352 for officers’ and staff salaries and allowances.

The budget puts development receipts at Tk 45,23,33,700 and development expenditure at the same figure. Notable development projects include the RUDTP, COVID-19 and sustainable urban infrastructure development. Allocations have also been made for water supply, sewerage and drainage improvements, the repair and expansion of municipal roads, the installation of street lights and various other development works.

Among those present at the budget announcement were Jibannagar police Officer-in-Charge (Operations) Atiar Rahman, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Fahmida Akter Runa, upazila engineer Al Amin, municipal management committee member Nripendranath Biswas and upazila primary education officer Ismail Hossain. Municipal accountant Abul Kalam Azad presented the detailed budget, and local journalists and other notable figures also attended.

At the announcement, the administrator said the budget was not merely a set of figures but a blueprint for the future development of Jibannagar municipality, and that ordinary people, alongside the administration, must come forward to ensure cooperation and good governance so that a well-run municipality could be delivered.
