DC Gold Cup football final held in Gangni

The upazila-level final and prize-giving ceremony of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gold Cup Football Tournament 2026 was held in Gangni upazila, Meherpur. Meherpur Deputy Commissioner Shilpi Rani Roy was chief guest at the final, played on Saturday afternoon at the Gangni Mini Stadium (Saharbati) ground, with Meherpur Superintendent of Police Ujjwal Kumar Roy as special guest.

At the ceremony, chaired by Gangni Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Anwar Hossain, the deputy commissioner addressed the players and stressed the importance of sport in keeping young people away from drugs, terrorism and social decay, before handing trophies and prizes to the winning and runner-up teams. Others present included district freedom-fighter commander Samsul Alam Sona; NCP central joint chief coordinator and Meherpur district coordinator Advocate Shakil Ahmad; Gangni police officer-in-charge (OC) Muhaddid Morshed Chowdhury; Gangni upazila BNP president Alfaz Uddin Kalu and general secretary Abdul Awal; and various political, social and administrative figures, along with local union representatives. A large crowd gathered at the stadium to watch the final, and the guests handed trophies, medals and prizes to the winning and runner-up teams after the match.
