India’s Border Security Force (BSF) tried to push five people into Bangladesh through the border in the Gangni area of Meherpur, but the attempt failed due to Border Guard Bangladesh’s (BGB) immediate resistance. The incident happened at about 4am on Friday in the Dhala border area.

Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB) commander Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Roni said members of the BSF’s 11th Battalion Buripota camp tried to illegally push four unidentified men and one woman into Bangladesh in the Dhala field area, about 150 yards inside India from border pillar 135/4-S in the Dhala BOP’s area of responsibility. The attempt failed because of BGB’s firm stance and resistance.

Dhala BGB camp commander Naik Subedar Nizam Uddin Shikder said BGB patrols along the border had been stepped up, and that no illegal push-in would be allowed in any way. BGB is currently on the highest alert along the border.

Local residents said that if any attempt was made to illegally push anyone into Bangladesh across the border, they too would stand with BGB to resist it.
