Gangni upazila in Meherpur observed the first-ever National Rural Development Day 2026 on Monday (July 6) under the theme “Advanced villages, prosperous country — Bangladesh first.” The upazila administration and the sub-district Rural Development office organized the event.
A rally began at 10am from the upazila parishad compound, proceeded through major roads, and ended at the parishad hall, where a discussion session followed.
Gangni Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Anwar Hossain presided over the discussion. Sub-district Rural Development Officer Md. Kamrul Hasan delivered the welcome address, and Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Motiur Rahman spoke at the event.
Art competition prizes were distributed to school students. Two entrepreneurs received loans of Tk 1 lakh each for self-employment. Incentive checks of Tk 29,400 each were handed to four adolescent girls who had turned 18. Saplings of various fruit, timber, and medicinal trees were also distributed to participants.
Speakers said rural development is a cornerstone of the country’s sustainable economic progress. They called for coordinated efforts across government and private sectors to continue programs aimed at improving rural livelihoods and creating employment opportunities.
