After news of the Indian education minister’s resignation broke, the founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), Abhijit Deepke, and a large number of protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar to celebrate. Abhijit Deepke said this was a symbol of the victory of democracy and that the strength of the cockroach should not be taken lightly.
At the same time he demanded 1 crore rupees each in compensation for the families of students who died by suicide over the paper leak, and strict action against the police personnel involved in the baton charge on protesters on 20 July. He further said that no one’s power is permanent against a public demand.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced his resignation on X on Saturday, before the third round of talks between the CJP and the central government. He said he had submitted his resignation to the prime minister out of a concern that no anti-national group should be able to exploit the country’s present situation.
He also said that no talented student’s future would be allowed to be ruined because of examination mafias, and that he had taken responsibility for the affair on his own shoulders from the beginning.
