Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has repelled an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to illegally push eight people into Bangladesh across the Kushtia border.

The incident took place at about 5:10 a.m. on Friday in the area near border pillar 152/1-S, under the responsibility of Joypur BOP of the BGB’s Kushtia battalion (47 BGB).

According to the BGB, members of the Char Meghna camp of the opposing 146 BSF Battalion tried to push a total of eight unidentified people — two men, four women and two transgender people — illegally into Bangladesh by swimming across the river. When patrolling BGB members noticed this, they immediately barred entry into Bangladesh. Faced with the BGB’s firm stance, those people were forced to return into India across the river.

The commanding officer of the Kushtia battalion (47 BGB), Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Roni, said the BGB is always alert to repel any kind of illegal entry and attempt to violate border law. The BGB is discharging its duty professionally to ensure border security and maintain peace and order, he said.
