In an act of apparent enmity, 296 mango trees have been cut down in a mango grove in Dinajpur’s Nawabganj upazila. The incident took place at some point during Thursday night in Nandanpur village of Binodnagar union in the upazila. According to local sources, unknown persons cut down 296 mango trees of a grove owned by Majedur Rahman of Nandanpur village under cover of night. On learning of it in the morning, the affected family informed the local administration.
A sub-inspector (SI) of Nawabganj police station, Nuruzzaman, said he visited the scene on Friday morning. He said: “296 mango trees of a grove belonging to Majedur Rahman of Nandanpur village have been cut down. Who did it under cover of night has not yet been confirmed. But it is thought the incident may have happened out of enmity.”
He also said the process of investigating the incident and taking the necessary legal steps was under way.
