Israeli forces arrested journalist Muhammad Awad in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday morning, Palestinian sources said.
The arrest brought the number of Palestinian journalists held in Israeli prisons to 40. The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society confirmed the figure in a statement, saying that five of those currently detained are women.
The organization said Israeli forces have arrested more than 250 journalists since the military assault on Gaza began in October 2023, although a large number were later released. It also said more than 260 journalists have been killed in Israeli attacks since the Gaza war began.
Palestinian media workers continue to face arrests and attacks while carrying out their professional duties, the statement said.
