The magazine programme “Ityadi” brings before viewers folk history, civilisation, culture, antiquities, remarkable tourism and all the unknown and varied tales of glory from remote regions. In that continuity, the river-ringed coastal district of Lakshmipur has been chosen for this episode. Taking local history and beauty as its theme, the stage was built in the open grounds of Nabin Kishore High School, which carries the memory of the century-old Dalal Bazar zamindars.

There was a festive atmosphere across Lakshmipur around the recording of Ityadi. Viewers began arriving at the venue from the afternoon. As on every occasion, invitation cards were distributed to viewers through the local district administration. The venue filled to capacity even before the appointed time. Although the event was held at the district headquarters, viewers of various classes and professions came from distant upazilas and even from various neighbouring districts.

This episode features two special songs. One is sung by the Lakshmipur singer Tanjina Ruma and the Feni singer Sazia Sultana Putul. It was composed with a tender melody by Akash Mahmud to lyrics by Kabir Bakul.

As always, there is also a district-introduction song and dance. The music for the song, written by Moniruzzaman Palash, was composed and arranged by Ujjal Sinha. Local dancers lit up the stage to the melody sung by Tanjina Ruma and Rajib, with choreography by S K Zahid.

In the audience segment, four people were selected from among those present through a question-and-answer round about Lakshmipur. These selected viewers then acted alongside the popular actress Dilara Zaman, herself a distinguished daughter of their district.

There is also a special interview with Nishat Majumder, the first Bangladeshi woman to conquer Everest, the world’s highest peak, and a daughter of Lakshmipur. She speaks of her feelings about mountaineering and about Ityadi.

As always, this episode also carries several fine reports. Alongside images of one of Lakshmipur’s main characteristics — the spread of soybean across broad fields and the rows of coconut and betel-nut trees — the programme has an informative report on the district’s history, heritage and important places and structures. As a unique example of education and inspiration, there is an uplifting report on a primary school there.

There is also a human-interest report on a destitute boatman of Lakshmipur locked in a ceaseless struggle with the river and with fate. The river that was once his source of income is today what has left them destitute.

The foreign segment this time features the “Great Ocean Road,” one of the most popular and spectacular coastal routes, built by soldiers returning from the First World War and the world’s longest war memorial.

There is also a lively conversation between the Kashem TV reporter and his grandson. Besides Ityadi’s regular letters segment, there are several sharp and satirical dramatic sketches on social irregularities and contemporary themes: Oil TV, Behind the Mask, Screen-Bound Life, Development Deception, Marriage Torment, Everyone a Doctor, YouTube Fever, Digital Treatment, and Pure Gold and Fake Gold, among others.

The notable performers in this Ityadi are Solaiman Khoka, Azam Khan, Subhashish Bhowmik, Abdullah Rana, Mir Nasimul Islam Selim, Zillur Rahman, Abdul Aziz, Barda Mithu, Sharaf Ahmed Jibon, Harun Rashid Banti, Ashraful Alam Sohag, Sumon Patwari, Amin Azad, Mukit Zakaria, Anando Khaled, Saidur Rahman Pavel, M N U Raju, Anwarul Alam Sajal, Anwar Shahi, Jamil Hossain, Sabrina Nisa, Zahid Sikder, Kamal Bayezid, Sajjad Saju, Nure Alam Nayan, Sujat Shimul, Suborna Majumder, Tarik Swapan, Mukul Siraj, Nazrul Islam, Iqbal Hossain, Suchona Sikder, Nipu and Belal Ahmed Murad, among many others. Art direction and stage design were by Mukimul Anwar Mukim.

This episode of the popular Ityadi will be broadcast next Friday on Bangladesh Television (BTV) after the 8 p.m. Bengali news. It was written, directed and presented by Hanif Sanket, and produced by Fagun Audio Vision. It is sponsored, as usual, by Keya Cosmetics Limited.
