A four-year-old child named Abdullah Mia has been crushed to death under the wheels of a moving auto-rickshaw in Gaibandha’s Sadullapur upazila. The accident occurred on Friday (5 June) afternoon near the Messrs Shahana Filling Station on the Sadullapur-Gaibandha road. Abdullah Mia was the son of Madhu Mia of South Manduar village in Bangram union of the upazila.
Locals said Abdullah Mia came onto the road near the filling station on Friday afternoon while playing with a tyre brought from home. As he crossed the road, he fell under a Gaibandha-bound auto-rickshaw; the wheel passed over his chest, seriously injuring him. Relatives rescued him, and he died on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Locals complained that a huge mahogany tree beside the road near the Messrs Shahana Filling Station has leaned toward the road, and that many people have already died after vehicles struck it — and now the child Abdullah too. They said the leaning tree could cause an accident again at any moment if not removed quickly. Bangram union council (UP) chairman Fazlul Kaiyum Huda said a child had died in an accident on the road near the filling station, and that such accidents often happen because of the leaning tree, which needs to be removed quickly.
