An 18-year-old Higher Secondary Certificate candidate was killed by lightning while planting rice in a field in Sirajganj’s Belkuchi upazila on Wednesday morning, police said.
The incident occurred in Char Sameshpur village in Rajapur union, police said.
Belkuchi police station officer-in-charge Imam Zafar said rain began while the student was working in his family’s field. As he ran toward home, two or three lightning strikes were heard and he died at the scene.
Police have opened an unnatural-death case, Zafar said.
