Railway police (GRP) have recovered the badly injured body of an unidentified woman of about 70 from beside the railway line in Chuadanga.

The body was recovered at about 1pm on Tuesday, 28 July, from the area beside First Capital University in the town. The initial assumption is that she died after being struck by a train.

According to police and local sources, local people informed police in the afternoon after seeing the body of an elderly woman lying on the railway line beside the university. On receiving the news, two separate teams from Chuadanga sadar police station and the railway police outpost reached the scene quickly and began the legal process.

The officer in charge of the Chuadanga railway outpost, Sub-Inspector Jagadish Chandra, said police visited the scene and recovered the body as soon as they were informed. The body has been sent to the morgue at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

He said: “The initial investigation suggests the woman died after being struck by the Mahananda Express, travelling from Khulna to Rajshahi, at about 1pm. Her identity has not yet been established; her age is about 70.”

The agency is working to establish her name and identity with the help of technology, including by collecting the dead woman’s fingerprints, and to determine the real cause of the incident.
