A battery-run van driver, Babu Lal Biswas, was killed when a Hanif Paribahan bus hit him on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Gournadi upazila of Barishal.
The accident occurred on Saturday (June 13) morning in front of the Sharmin Clinic in the upazila’s Ashokathi area.
The dead van driver, Babu Lal Biswas, was the son of Sukh Lal Biswas of Jumirbari village in Ujirpur upazila.
According to eyewitnesses and local people, the accident happened because of the excessive speed of the Hanif Paribahan bus. After the accident, the bus was held at the Gournadi bus stand.
Mohsin Ahmed, officer-in-charge (OC) of the Gournadi Highway police station, said members of the Gournadi highway police and the fire service reached the scene quickly on receiving word of the accident and brought the situation under control. The highway police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for an autopsy. Police seized the bus. A case has been filed at the police station over the incident, he said.
