Dhaka’s Detective Branch arrested former joint secretary Syed Jaglul Pasha at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday night, police said.

Detective Branch chief and additional commissioner Shafiqul Islam confirmed the arrest Wednesday morning.

Police alleged that Pasha had prepared false documents and given false testimony in a case against the late former prime minister Khaleda Zia involving the Zia Orphanage Trust. The allegations are subject to legal process.

Detectives said they received information that Pasha was returning to Dhaka from Cox’s Bazar by air and arrested him near the airport at about 8:50 p.m.

Police said he is named in cases under the Special Powers Act in Gulshan, a murder case linked to the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Jatrabari, a case relating to Operation Eagle Hunt in Shibganj, Chapainawabganj, and the killing of BNP leader Altab Hossain in Daulatpur, Kushtia.

Detective Branch sources also linked him to a 2013 case over trucks carrying sand placed outside a BNP office in Gulshan. Police said further legal action was under way.
