Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized cattle, Indian yaba tablets and various smuggled goods in operations along several borders in Kurigram.

The information was given in a press release from BGB’s Kurigram Battalion on Thursday (June 18) afternoon.

In the release, the BGB said that in a 24-hour operation it had seized 21 head of cattle, 1,065 Indian yaba tablets and a large quantity of cosmetics, along with several other smuggled goods.

The release also said that necessary preparations had been taken to counter any untoward situation, including the prevention of “push-in” along the border. Regular surveillance was continuing in all border outpost (BOP) areas. To curb smuggling, illegal entry and other border crimes, the BGB had stepped up special patrols and intelligence activity alongside regular patrols, it said. These goods were seized as part of that effort.

The commanding officer of BGB’s Kurigram Battalion (22 BGB), Lt. Col. Mohammad Mahbub-ul-Haque, said: “The BGB is firmly committed to implementing a zero-tolerance policy in protecting the country’s sovereignty, preventing smuggling and curbing illegal entry.”
