US President Donald Trump has ordered several “amendments” to the deal with Iran. At a meeting in the White House Situation Room, Trump told his team to change several clauses of the agreement.

A report published by Al Jazeera on Sunday (May 31) said the amendments concern issues related to Iran’s nuclear programme. The deal currently has Iran pledging not to build nuclear weapons, but lacks details on certain specific concessions beyond that.

A senior administration official told Axios: “It is mainly about specifying how the United States will obtain Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and what the timeline for that will be.”

Another source said Trump also wants changes around the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The sources said it could take three days to get Iran’s response. “We expect to get something early in the week,” one senior administration official said.

Earlier, Trump said: “We should not have gone into Iran, but Iran has the capability. If we had not struck them with B-2 bombers nine months ago, they would have a nuclear weapon now and the situation would be completely different. There might not have been an Israel, and the whole Middle East would have been in question. Where would they have gone then?”
