Earning Allah’s special grace and favor is the greatest aspiration of every believer. But Allah’s mercy does not always manifest through wealth, comfort, or outward success. Often, trials, hardship, faith, taqwa, and opportunities for righteous deeds themselves become signs of Allah’s special favor. In light of the Quran and authentic Hadith, there are characteristics that indicate Allah’s benevolence toward a servant.

1. Righteous deeds before death

Allah grants the one He loves the opportunity to perform good deeds before death and takes them in a state of righteousness. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “When Allah intends good for a servant, He employs him.” The companions asked how, and he replied: “He guides him to perform righteous deeds before death, then takes his soul in that state.” (Tirmidhi 2142)

2. Opening the heart to Islam

Allah opens the heart of the one He wishes to guide. Allah says: “Whoever Allah wishes to guide, He opens his heart to Islam.” (Surah Al-An’am: 125)

3. Warning through trials

Many hardships in a believer’s life are warnings, lessons, and opportunities to return to Allah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “When Allah intends good for someone, He afflicts him.” (Bukhari 5645)

4. Purification through hardship

Trials expiate a believer’s sins and elevate their rank. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “No fatigue, illness, sorrow, sadness, hurt, or distress befalls a Muslim but that Allah expiates some of his sins through it.” (Bukhari 5641, Muslim 2573)

5. Guidance toward taqwa

Taqwa is the true measure of honor before Allah. Allah says: “Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you.” (Surah Al-Hujurat: 13)

6. Granting understanding of the religion

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “When Allah intends good for someone, He gives him understanding of the religion.” (Bukhari 71, Muslim 1037)

7. Contentment and satisfaction

Allah says: “Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while being a believer, We will surely cause him to live a good life.” (Surah An-Nahl: 97)

8. A sense of closeness to Allah

Allah says: “Those who believe and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah. Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” (Surah Ar-Ra’d: 28)

9. Acceptance and love among people

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “When Allah loves a servant, He calls Jibreel and says: ‘I love so-and-so, so love him.’ Then Jibreel loves him, and he calls out among the inhabitants of heaven: ‘Allah loves so-and-so, so love him.’ Then the inhabitants of heaven love him, and acceptance is placed for him on earth.” (Bukhari 3209, Muslim 2637)

10. A good end

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “When Allah intends good for a servant, He sweetens him.” The companions asked: “What is sweetening?” He said: “He is guided to do good deeds before his death, so that those around him are pleased with him.” (Ahmad 17330)

These signs are not limited to visible blessings. In many cases, they manifest through trials, patience, and inner transformation. A believer should always remain hopeful and grateful, recognizing Allah’s wisdom in every circumstance.
