Jantar Mantar, the historic site in the Indian capital, Delhi, had become a stage for protest. But amid the recent movement, Delhi police have decided to drop Jantar Mantar from the list of designated protest sites.
In a post on the social media platform X, Dipke wrote: “They have removed Jantar Mantar from the list of designated protest sites. Yes, it is no longer a protest site, because the cowardly dictator had turned it into a battlefield anyway. Now the whole country will be Jantar Mantar!”
Delhi police have cancelled the listing of Jantar Mantar as a designated place for protests and demonstrations in the national capital and have named three alternative places for gatherings of this kind.
The order, signed by Delhi police commissioner Anurag Kumar, amends an earlier standing order of 28 April 2022 in which Jantar Mantar was designated as a place of protest.
The step has been taken in the middle of the continuing protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
