Lalmonirhat BNP candidate Dulu declares Tk 530 million in assets

LALMONIRHAT — Asadul Habib Dulu, the BNP candidate for the Lalmonirhat-3 (Sadar) constituency in the upcoming 13th parliamentary election and organizing secretary of the Rangpur divisional BNP, has declared total movable and immovable assets worth about 53 crore taka (about US$4.4 million). Agriculture is the main source of his annual income, according to information disclosed in the affidavit he submitted to the returning officer’s office.

According to the affidavit, Dulu, a former college principal, has listed his current profession as “agriculture and business.” His wife, Layla Habib, is a businesswoman primarily engaged in the transport business. Of his two sons, Ahnaf Habib Intesar is currently employed in the private sector, and the younger son, Ahmik Habib Yardan, is a student. The affidavit lists no assets or bank deposits in his sons’ names.

The bulk of Dulu’s annual income comes from agriculture. He earns 1 crore 14 lakh 33,570 taka annually from agriculture. He earns 14 lakh 67,000 taka from house, apartment and shop rentals; 5 lakh 23,355 taka from business; and 6 lakh 72,702 taka from other sources. He holds 46,434 taka in shares and bank deposits.

The candidate holds significant amounts in cash and at various banks, including 10 lakh 82,820 taka in a new account opened for election expenses, the affidavit says. He has 15 lakh 25,000 taka in cash. Of this, he has 8 lakh 55,686 taka and 38,769 taka (in two separate accounts) at Sonali Bank, 26,677 taka at Bank Asia, 47,677 taka at AB Bank, 35,606 taka at Prime Bank, 38,769 taka at Dutch-Bangla Bank, 2,156 taka at City Bank and a nominal balance of 26 taka at Islami Bank.

Investments and vehicles include 4 lakh 50,000 taka in an unlisted cold storage and bank shares with a purchase value of 4 lakh 48,640 taka. He owns two microbuses, two buses, one truck and a new car. The current market value of the two microbuses is 62 lakh 37,000 taka, and the two buses are worth about 1 crore 15 lakh taka. Electronics, furniture, a firearm and other movable assets have a current estimated value of 2 crore 46 lakh 99,120 taka.

Land accounts for the largest portion of Dulu’s immovable assets. He owns 36.512 acres of agricultural land (with a government average value of 22 crore 87 lakh 12,859 taka) and 4.5857 acres of non-agricultural land (with a government average value of 22 crore 95 lakh 75,591 taka). He also owns a building in Banani, Dhaka, worth 3 crore taka; assets worth 20 lakh 64,000 taka in Lalmonirhat; and tea estates, rubber estates and fish farms worth 3 crore 72 lakh 60,050 taka.

In his wife Layla Habib’s name are a transport business, a tin-shed house and 10 bhori (about 117 grams) of gold ornaments. Her total assets are shown at a current market value of 87 lakh 41,787 taka.

Asadul Habib Dulu contested as a BNP candidate from this constituency in 1996 and 2001. During his time as a member of parliament, he implemented significant electoral pledges, including construction of the Teesta River embankment, the launch of an inter-city train, establishment of a Technical Training Center and a Youth Development Center, and construction of a 50-bed hospital in Lalmonirhat, the affidavit notes.
