SHERPUR — Police recovered the dismembered body of an unidentified woman from a banana grove in Sherpur on Friday, officials said.
The remains were found on March 20 at noon in a banana grove in the Mobarakpur Koinyapara area of the municipal town. The body included the section from the head to the waist; the portion below the waist had been severed.
According to police and local sources, residents discovered the dismembered body when they entered the grove Friday morning and alerted police, who recovered the remains.
After completing an inquest, police sent the body to the morgue at Sherpur District Sadar Hospital.
Mohammad Sohel Rana, officer in charge of Sherpur Sadar police station, said the body had been sent for an autopsy. He said only the section from the waist to the head was recovered; the rest was not at the scene. An investigation is underway to determine what happened, he said.
