RANGPUR — ATM Azharul Islam, member of parliament for the Rangpur-2 constituency, has warned that no form of brokerage or middleman activity will be tolerated at police stations to harass ordinary citizens.

He made the remarks Friday afternoon, March 6, at an iftar gathering honoring professionals at the hall of Badarganj Government Degree College.

Azharul said dishonest individuals sometimes exploit the name of the local police station to extort money from ordinary people and harass them through various forms of brokerage. He instructed the local police chief to take a firm stand against such practices.

Jahid Hasan Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Badarganj police station, said legal action would be taken against anyone caught taking money illegally from people seeking services at the station. He advised the public not to deal with any intermediaries.

Sarkar said all services at the station must be obtained directly from officers on duty. “If anyone uses the name of the police station to engage in brokerage or harassment, we urge people to report it to police immediately,” he said.
