RANGPUR, Bangladesh — The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested Kamal Chandra Adhikari, accused of killing his sister-in-law over a land dispute three-and-a-half months ago in Rangpur’s Gangachara, police said.

RAB-13 confirmed the arrest in a news release on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 22.

Adhikari was arrested around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, from the home of Shri Dhirendranath in Paschim Daliram of Nilphamari’s Kishoreganj.

According to the case complaint, Krishna Rani was married to Ratan, a resident of Monkasha village in Gangachara upazila’s sadar union. After the marriage, Ratan and his brother Kamal began to feud. Ratan died in a road crash in March this year. After his death, Kamal frequently quarreled with Krishna.

The 40 decimals of land that Ratan had owned were to be registered in Krishna Rani’s name. A day before that registration, on a July evening, Krishna was killed when a toxic substance was injected into her body through a saline drip or syringe. The next day, her father, Dijendra Chandra Sarkar, filed a murder case at Gangachara Model police station, naming seven accused.

Bipalab Kumar Goswami, senior assistant director (media) of RAB-13, said the arrested suspect, Kamal, has been handed over to Gangachara police station.
