DHAKA — Sadhana Mahal, a vice president of Amjanatar Dal, has resigned from the party after social media personality Ashraful Alam, known as Hero Alom, joined it, party sources said.

Mo. Tareq Rahman, the party’s member secretary, had said the doors of Amjanatar Dal would be open to those leaving the National Citizen Party (NCP). It was through that “open door” that the vice president of his own party has now left.

Mahal announced her resignation from Amjanatar Dal in a Facebook post Sunday night (Dec. 28). She did not state a reason directly in the post, but reactions in the comments offered hints of the decision’s background.

Earlier the same evening, Ashraful Alam, the social media figure known as Hero Alom, formally joined the newly registered Amjanatar Dal. Shortly after his induction, Mahal announced she was leaving the vice president’s post.

In her Facebook post, she said she had decided to step away from Amjanatar Dal. She wished Tareq Rahman and the party well, expressing hope that the party would get the chance to correct what she described as a major political mistake before significant damage was done.
