Habiganj Superintendent of Police Md Tareq Mahmud confirmed the matter on Tuesday morning, 6 October, and said the circle assistant superintendent of police had been given the task of investigating.
A video of ASI Mohammad Ilias spread on social media recently, prompting discussion and reactions.
In the video Ilias says: “There is no smoke without fire. Don’t you understand? If I say I am a police officer and I do not take bribes, that I am the imam of Baitul Mukarram, would that be so? I put on this uniform with bribe money, and for the very purpose of taking bribes.”
It was later learned that the ASI made the remarks recently at Ranigaon Bazar in Chunarughat upazila, where he had gone to investigate a case. A local person recorded his remarks on a mobile phone, and the video later spread on social media.
